Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector Program
In an effort to prevent fire-related deaths and reduce property loss, the Wilmington Fire Department offers free smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and replacement batteries for residents of the City. There is a limit of one carbon monoxide detector and one smoke detector per household. The detectors and batteries are provided by the American Red Cross. We thank them for the support they have given to this program and to the Department.
The Department suggests placement of smoke detectors in each bedroom, on each level of the house, including basements, and one in the common area of the home. Follow the manufacturer's recommendation for placement of the detectors on walls and ceilings.
