Greetings from the Mayor
Welcome to the City of Wilmington, Ohio!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you, not only to our new City website, but to the City itself. The City of Wilmington is nothing without its people, and we are eager to share this special place with you. Wilmington is a small town with a family focus and we strive to offer activities and entertainment for all ages. Many of our youth are involved in all levels of sports, the arts, 4-H, or other outdoor pursuits. Living in Wilmington is affordable enabling many people to enjoy the "big city" amenities in Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus, whether that is a Reds or Dragons baseball game, a ballet or theatre production, a visit to a museum, shopping or dining. Wilmington College and Southern State Community College enrich the life in our community by offering higher educational opportunities, sports, music and theatre productions, children's theatre, art shows, public events and lectures and much more.
We welcome businesses of all sizes to locate here. In addition to our other economic development activities, we recently began exploring "green" development, establishing the City of Wilmington Green Enterprise Zone (GEZ) on July 16, 2009. We believe that our GEZ is the first of its kind in the nation. Wilmington is blessed with land, water, job ready sites, a good location and a sizeable workforce with a good work ethic. These advantages have consistently attracted businesses to our area.
I invite you to visit Wilmington soon. Explore our parks, lakes and trails. Enjoy a show at the Murphy Theatre and dinner out. Talk to our visitor's bureau about the abundance of things to see and do in our area. Consider starting a business here. You will find that people here "don't know a stranger." So when you come to Wilmington, come as a friend.
Warmest regards,
David L. Raizk
Mayor
