Civil Service Commission Powers and Duties of Commission

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 124.40, the Municipal Civil Service Commission of the City of Wilmington, Ohio is responsible for prescribing, amending, and enforcing rules for the classification of positions in the civil service of the city, for examinations and resignations therefor;  for appointments, promotions, removals, transfers, layoffs, suspensions, reductions, and reinstatements therein;  and for standardizing positions and maintaining efficiency therein.  The Civil Service Commission shall exercise all other powers with regard to employees in the civil service of the City of Wilmington as the Director of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services exercises with regard to employees of the State of Ohio, including conducting civil service examinations and preparation of eligible lists.

In addition, the Civil Service Commission shall exercise all other powers with regard to employees in the civil service of the City of Wilmington as the Director of the State Personnel Board of Review exercises with regard to employees of the State of Ohio, including hearing appeals, as provided by law, of employees in the classified service of the city and of their appointing authorities.
